New life for a former church
In the Thuringian village of Kraftsdorf, Martina Henschke and her husband, Markus, bought a small former New Apostolic church to convert it into a private residence. The façade of the church, built in 1954 in the former GDR, is under a preservation order, but inside there were no limits to their design ideas.
From altar to habitat
During the renovation of the former church building, the couple nevertheless wanted to preserve the "meditative" character of the house and at the same time set new accents. "The ritual room is really nice. It gives you a certain calmness. Inside, it is a bit like standing in a landscape," is how the owners explain this decision. The varied, pre-existing wood of the floors, panels and ceiling already set the colour mood.
In accordance with the desired new atmosphere and colours, the choice fell to the high-quality engineered wood flooring, Eco Balance Thermo oak wide plank. The new floor was crucial in the metamorphosis from former office to new bedroom and from altar to cosy reading and living space. Martina Henschke, who laid the flooring herself, was impressed by the ease-of-use and precision of the Automatic-Click® system. It now feels different in the rooms when walking barefoot too: "The oiled surface is very pleasant underfoot."
