When a floor changes the rental contract

EARLSTREET is a free network of creative people and is organised as a non-profit project by committed members. The network occupies vacant properties and since 2010 has had its headquarters in an old 19th century horse stable in the heart of Darmstadt. The premises consist of a design and art gallery as well as studio and work areas. Over the last seven years, more than 60 interdisciplinary projects have been developed here.

An ideal basis for new concepts and ideas

In 2017 EARLSTREET applied to Parador as part of "40 years, 40 projects", the big anniversary campaign to mark the 40th anniversary of the company's existence. At that time, the creative project was on the verge of giving up its headquarters. The roof was leaking and the members were expecting their rental contract to be terminated at any hour.

Everything changed suddenly with Parador's promise to support EARLSTREET with a new floor. Suddenly the city also seemed willing to renegotiate. The leak in the roof was repaired to protect the flooring and a longer term rental contract was agreed.

The engineered wood flooring Beech 3-strip in the rustic assortment and matt lacquered surface from the Basic 11-5 product line makes the approximately 160 square metre exhibition space look lively and open. At the same time, the natural wood flooring has noticeably improved the acoustics of the room. Where slippery flooring used to dominate, the light-coloured beech engineered wood flooring now provides a pleasant and safe walking sensation. "Now the room has a whole new effect. With the vibrant flooring, the exhibition space is much more inviting," says Julia Krämer, one of the founders of EARLSTREET.
