You may need profiles for different reasons. Some have to do with the look of your floor, some have a technical need.

Profiles can be necessary if your floor has different heights, then you need a transition profile. Another reason can be if you clearly want to separate two different rooms from one another, or when you want an aesthetic transition between different decors.
